* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE...Portions of east central Kentucky, north central Kentucky, northwest Kentucky and south central Kentucky, including the following counties, in east central Kentucky, Boyle, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison and Mercer. In north central Kentucky, Breckinridge, Hardin, Larue, Nelson and Washington. In northwest Kentucky, Ohio. In south central Kentucky, Adair, Allen, Barren, Butler, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hart, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Simpson, Taylor and Warren.

* WHEN...Through Monday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected across the watch area. Rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour will be possible and bring a flash flood threat to portions of central and southern Kentucky this evening and overnight. Areas that see repeated rounds of thunderstorm activity will be most susceptible to flash flooding.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

There is a Slight Risk for strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow with the biggest threat being damaging winds and heavy rain.

Flooding Threat Continues

NWS SPC continues the Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall Today for Central and Eastern Kentucky, and West Central West Virginia. A Moderate Risk can also be found in portions of Colorado and New Mexico. 

More showers and thunderstorms are expected later today exacerbating an ongoing flooding event in Eastern Kentucky. Training of storms last night and this morning caused several water rescues and flooded homes. Buckhorn Elementary School became submerged under flood waters with water approaching the rooftop in Perry County, Kentucky. This photo was taken by Thomas Joseph and was sent in to fox 56 weather.

While we needed the rainfall, there certainly was no balance in some locations. Eastern Kentucky ended up with 4-8 inches of rainfall last night/this morning.

* WHERE...Portions of east central Kentucky, north central Kentucky, northwest Kentucky and south central Kentucky, including the following counties, in east central Kentucky, Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas and Woodford. In north central Kentucky, Hardin, Larue, Nelson and Washington. In northwest Kentucky, Ohio. In south central Kentucky, Adair, Allen, Barren, Butler, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hart, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Simpson, Taylor and Warren.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM CDT/11 AM EDT/ Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and move

  over the region in the coming hours. If this precipitation

  keeps passing over the same area, flooding will be possible.

In Kentucky, Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Casey, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Hardin, Harrison, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Larue, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, Meade, Mercer, Nelson, Nicholas, Oldham, Scott, Shelby, Spencer, Taylor, Trimble, Washington and Woodford.

* WHEN...Through Wednesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Strong to Severe Storms Tuesday & Wednesday

 There is the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across the entire state Tuesday and Wednesday. Damaging winds and heavy rain are the biggest concerns at this time for both days.

Wednesday's Outlook

Any and all rainfall from these showers and thunderstorms are welcomed by many across the state as we have been battling drought. It is also great to get some relief from the 90+ degree heat waves that we have been having these past couple of months. Precipitation for the next couple of weeks look to be above normal.

Heat Waves and Drought Continues

 The rain from training thunderstorms across Central Kentucky last night was quite welcoming as water levels in creeks, river, lakes, and streams have been dropping from high temperatures and the lack of rainfall. The drought concerns continue as another heat wave with 95+ degree temperatures and 100+ heat indexes is on the approach. The Climate Prediction Center has the next 6-10 temperature outlook to be above normal while precipitation is below normal. Looking out west we can see exceptional drought outlined in dark red.
