Watching the tropics

 


There is a tropical disturbance in the eastern tropical Atlantic and there is ongoing disorganized thunderstorms. Formation for the next 48 hours are low, however there is a 60% chance for it to organize and become a tropical depression within the next 5 days. We are within hurricane season and so all disturbances needs to be monitored in case of rapid intensification. It will be moving at 15 to 20 miles per hour and heading to the Windward Islands.

 Here is the cone of uncertainty issued by the National Hurricane Center. 

Tropical Storm Force Winds probability.

90% purple, 80% dark red, 70% light red, 60% orange.


Here are the current estimated arrival times. Elsa is expected to reach south Florida by late Sunday into Early Monday.

Major Hurricane Laura


At 1:00 am CDT, Hurricane Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana with 150 mph winds, a pressure of 938 mb, as major category 4 hurricane.



Hurricane Laura is now a Major category 4 Hurricane!

Hurricane Laura is currently at category 4 hurricane with 150 mph winds and with a pressure of 940 mb.

Laura is moving north-northwest at 15 mph.

Laura is expected to make landfall as a high end Cat 4 Hurricane with 150 mph winds.

Potentially deadly storm surge up to 20 feet in some locations, see storm surge forecast below.
